BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A man who allegedly jumped out of the 12-story window of a Roxbury apartment after police arrived and found a body there— is now being charged with murder.

Officers had arrived to the scene on Northampton Street for a wellbeing check and found 43-year-old Jose Aponte dead inside the apartment. After officers entered they were met with a "physical threat," after they made verbal contact with a second individual inside.

Police say 38-year-old Michael Perry of Boston tried to leap out of the building but became snagged, blocking his descent. Officials pulled Perry back inside from the floor below, bringing him into custody and transporting him to a local hospital for his non-life-threatening injuries.

Perry was held in custody after his arraignment in Boston Municipal Court and charged with Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon once he was released from the hospital. Then, later in the week on Friday, the Boston Police Department announced that Perry was charged with Murder in Suffolk Superior Court and ordered held without bail after more investigation was completed.

His next court appearance is scheduled for January.
