BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A program that started 15 years ago to teach kids the ins and outs of music is still beating drums and strumming chords to this day in the Boston Common.

WBZ's Carl Stevens caught up with Tommy Dempsey, whose wife started the music enrichment company "Little Groove."

"I sing and play guitar for the children and basically share my love of music with babies and toddlers to help them learn. There's a lot of things that happen in music and the brain— everything is kind of firing up in these kids' heads," Dempsey said.

One mother says that the class helps her two-year-old son in more ways than one.

"He was a late talker and this really brought him out of his shell," she said.

A nanny attending the classes says Little Groove helped her clients' kid stretch his legs.

"I love it, it gets all of his energy out in a productive way," she said.

According to the Little Groove website, basic instrument classes are also available to children over three years old. Songs used in the classes can be found on Spotify and iTunes for at-home use too.
