According to the Lowell Sun, Superintendent of Schools Joel Boyd sent a letter to families Friday, saying that the effort is part of a pilot program in collaboration with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. With the Guard set to start assistance this week, Boyd wrote that there has been an increase in positive COVID-19 cases in the Lowell community.
A statement that was supported by a report published by DESE, which said that 240 student cases and 30 staff cases were reported in Lowell between November 18 and December 1.
