Mayors Wu and Gualtieri Sign Document To Strengthen Ties Between Cities

BOSTON, (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Wednesday, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri signed a Declaration of Intent to solidify relations between the cities of Boston and Rome. The document is intended to boost relations between the two cities, which already have similar academic, cultural, and economic bonds.  

“Boston and Rome are cradles of history and culture, and our partnership will strengthen both cities in continuing to make history for a brighter future,” said Mayor Michelle Wu.

It is also believed that a stronger connection between Boston and Rome can lead to increased rates of tourism and trade, along with cultural and student exchanges, and an increased presence of Italian companies in the Boston area.

“Boston is where the history of the United States begins. This is one of the reasons for strong links with Rome, that we confirmed during the meeting with Mayor Michelle Wu,” said Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri.

The Declaration of Intent signifies a specific intent to strengthen collaboration and improve cooperation in areas including economic cooperation that will support the growth of companies in each city, exchanges in areas such as business and trade, climate resilience, higher education, medical research, along with travel and tourism.  

Boston is home to eight companies that are headquartered in Italy, including Piaggio Fast Forward, a robotics company; Eataly, a public market and eatery, and Chiesi Farmaceutici S.p.A., a pharmaceutical company.
