BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The MBTA is closing a stretch of the Green Line's B Branch for track work.

Shuttle busses will replace service along the B Branch from Boston College to Babcock Street from Aug. 2 through Aug.11. There will be no shuttle stops at Allston Street, Griggs Street, or Packard's Corner for accessibility reasons.

During the closure, MBTA crews will work to replace tracks and ties along this stretch of the line to eliminate remaining slow zones. This stretch of the B Branch is one of two sections of the line with speed restrictions of 10 miles per hour or less, according to the MBTA's speed restriction tracker. In all, there are 12 speed restrictions on the Green Line that cover one mile of the line's total track.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and the City of Boston are teaming up to offer free Bluebike access to riders impacted by the closure. Each user can get up to five free Bluebike unlocks during the closure by using the code "MBTAGREENAUGUST" in the Bluebikes app. The code is good for both traditional pedal bikes and ebikes.

The MBTA has been working to eliminate all slow zones across its network. As of Aug. 2, there are 75 speed restrictions covering 9.7 miles across the entire system, which adds up to seven percent of all track along all four lines. Back in May, the MBTA announced it had removed all slow zones from the Blue Line.
