BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Demolition work on the Government Center parking garage continues this weekend, suspending Orange Line service between North Station and Ruggles Stations and officials are taking advantage of the pause to do some track work.

According to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, riders supplement the Orange Line route with the Green Line between Government Center and Copley and use shuttles that will run to and from Ruggles and Copley. The Green Line between North Station and Government Center will also be substituted with shuttles.

According to the MBTA, the affected stops will be:

  • North Station
  • Haymarket
  • State
  • Downtown Crossing
  • Chinatown
  • Tufts Medical Center
  • Back Bay
  • Mass Ave & Ruggles

MBTA officials say riders should expect delays up to 15 minutes because of the shorthanded weekend fleet.

"The MBTA is leveraging this opportunity to perform additional track work, including the replacement of rail fasteners, between Back Bay and Ruggles Stations. The important work this weekend, which will continue next month, will lead to faster and more reliable Orange Line service," a spokesperson for the MBTA said.
