MELROSE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The man accused of beating his dog with a large rock and burying it in his back yard in Melrose made his first court appearance Tuesday morning.
Adam Crook, 44, is charged with one count of animal cruelty. He pleaded not guilty, and was released under his own recognizance. The judge said he may not possess any animals.
Prosecutors say Crook killed the dog last Friday. The dog and a shovel were found after a search warrant was served, and he was arrested Sunday.
Crook rushed to his car after leaving the courthouse without speaking to reporters.
A pretrial hearing is set for January 14.
