BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Wednesday, Beth Israel Lahey Health System reported a total of 209 employees who have tested positive for coronavirus.
That's nearly double the number of infected employees reported five days ago.
According to a press release, the spike from 109 positive results last Friday to 209 today includes employees across the entire BILH System, which is made up of 13 healthcare facilities.
11 of those facilities have reported employee cases of COVID-19, however not all those employees are in patient-facing roles.
Nearly 40 percent of the employee cases are at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. That's also the facility with the highest number of inpatient cases among the BILH system, and the highest number of patients with coronavirus in the ICU.
Most of the rest of the employee cases were at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, which had 49 cases, BILH Primary Care which had 17 cases, and Mount Auburn and Winchester Hospitals which each had 15 cases.
