NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts State Police is searching for a missing jet skier after he collided with a boat in Northampton's portion of Connecticut River on Sunday.

Officials say the incident happened at around 7 p.m., after which rescue crews brought two boaters to the state boat ramp alongside Route 5. From there, the pair of boaters were brought to the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

As for the jet skier, water search operations went until just before midnight Sunday with no luck, and picked up again Monday morning with side-sonar equipment. State officials say the missing jet skier is believed to be 51-year-old man, but that has yet to be confirmed.

"[The equipment] feeds a sonar image of the water column and river bottom back to a monitor on the boats. If any anomalies or objects are detected by the sonar, divers will enter the water to investigate further," State Police said.
