QUINCY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — With nowhere else to go, dozens of migrant families, including young children and babies, have been sleeping on the sidewalk outside of Quincy's Wollaston MBTA station as they wait for assistance.

“It’s crazy to me how we live in this country, and you have people with small children [are] just sleeping at a train station, it just doesn’t make any sense to me,” said Damaris Frias, a woman who lives across the street from the station with her husband, Cleon.

The couple bought breakfast for the families on Wednesday morning. They said migrants have been outside of the station for the past couple of weeks, but never this many.

“I’m worried for them you know? I mean they’re out here on the curb it’s not a good situation,” one rider said.

“I was just praying for them and a miracle because, they came out of nowhere, it’s really sad,” another rider said holding back tears.

A spokesperson for Governor Healey’s office told WBZ NewsRadio in a statement that they “urge families to visit our Family Welcome Centers so that they can be referred to temporary respite centers and receive case management and other resources to help them identify their next steps.”

The spokesperson also added that “there are shuttles between the Family Welcome Center and Wollaston. Any eligible family who visited a Welcome Center this week has been offered a space at a temporary respite center.”
