BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — From chanting fans at TD Garden to honking horns in Kenmore Square, Boston is a loud city.

The fifth loudest, to be exact.

A new report by industrial noise control company Steel Guard ranked Boston the fifth noisiest city in the United States.

Boston out-honked, out-beeped and out-buzzed Los Angeles, San Francisco and Miami, Fla.

Of the 100 cities surveyed, Boston had the seventh longest average commute time, sixth most construction permits per 100,000 people and ranked second in nightlife venues per square mile with 28.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, "noise pollution adversely affects the lives of millions of people."

Excess sound can relate to a host of health problems including stress, hearing loss and high blood pressure, according to the EPA.
