BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — What matters most, quality or quantity, when it comes to sleep?

According to USA Today, adults get seven to nine hours of sleep per night. However, three to five out of ten Americans fall short of that number. The research leads experts to suggest that the quality of our sleep may be more important than the number of hours of shut-eye.

Though despite study after study, there's no secret answer to unlock. Conventional wisdom also suggests that children get 12 to 16 hours of sleep per night and teens get 8 to 10 hours. But oftentimes that's chasing a carrot on the end of a stick we'll never reach. Some parents say they can't remember the last time he had a truly restful night of sleep.

"My actual average is probably five, but that never happens," one parent said.

Others credit their lack of work-life balance, which contributes to their lack of Z's.

"I don't get a lot of sleep. I work third shift," a resident said.

While some attempt to substitute sips of coffee for sleep, others say that if they can't log enough hours of sack time, quality sleep can help them through.

"Quality of hours is so much better than quantity, without question," another resident said.
