BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — For the first time since 2019, the Boston Athletic Association Half Marathon kicked off on Sunday with more than 6,300 runners plowing through the route despite spritzes of morning rain in Franklin Park.

The race along the 13.1 miles stretch of the Emerald Necklace Park System was presented by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, and teams representing those organizations raised more than $450,000 to fight cancer. Since Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund partnered with the B.A.A. in 2003, runners have collectively raised more than $8 million to support cancer research.
