SALEM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Thursday marks the first day of a new format for the Salem Horror Fest.
A redesigned schedule features events across the city over two weekends.
"We're just having pop-up screenings in all kinds of places," Festival Director Kay Lynch said.
Night one kicks off with a screening of "The People's Joker" at the Peabody Essex Museum.
Opening night was originally slotted to feature a Q&A with "Hocus Pocus" star Kathy Najimy, but the actor canceled her appearance.

More movie marathons, soundtrack listening parties and other events are scheduled at a host of venues around Salem.
The Salem Horror Fest runs across two weekends through May 5.
