BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Shuttle buses will be replacing service on the Blue Line during the evening starting Monday for track work.
The shuttles will run between Government Center and Wonderland starting at 8 p.m. until the end of service from Monday, April 24 to Thursday, April 27th, and then again from Monday, May 1 to Thursday, May, 4. Buses will not stop at the Bowdoin station during this shutdown, which means riders will need to go to Government Center to get shuttle service.
This temporary, nightly shutdown of the entire Blue Line will allow for crews to continue track work on the line that will help get rid of speed restrictions on the Blue Line—at the time of publication, 44 percent of the Blue Line is under speed restrictions. Crews are set to replace close to 2,00 feet of rail and over 450 ties, along with performing more than 3,000 feet of tamping.

The MBTA said in a statement that based on how much progress work crews make during these shutdowns, the agency will look into adding extra days of shutdowns starting at 8 p.m. during the month of June. The MBTA is also planning to schedule work on other locations along the Blue Line to make sure the line can run effectively during the two-month shutdown of the Sumner Tunnel this summer.
These shutdowns were originally set to start at 7 p.m., but the MBTA pushed it back to 8 p.m. after getting feedback from riders.
