SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Saturday afternoon was full of Americana and indie rock tunes blaring down neighborhoods of Somerville— with concert venues being residential porches just taking part in the 2023 PorchFest.

"PorchFest is my singular favorite day of the year here in the Boston Area. I love the architecture of the homes and normally I pass through here real fast on my bike and my car, it's just nice to see people out in all ages from five to 95," one Cambridge resident named Eric Jay told WBZ's Suzanne Sausville.

With more than 200 musical acts performing this year, the idea of amplifying porch-played tunes has only grown since its beginnings in 2011.

Shelly from Brookline says she could not be happier just sitting her lawn chair under a tree, listening to the bands and artists nearby.

"Shade, bands, cool people, I was just dancing a little while ago— it doesn't get better than that. The fact that I'm seeing new musicians, it's local, and just giving new artists a chance— it's so homey to do it on someone's porch. It's all free— what a gift, what a gift," Shelly said.

PorchFest comes as a collaboration between the City of Somerville and the Somerville Arts Council, taking place in the areas west of Willow Avenue, Central Somerville, and east of Central Street.
