BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — With wedding season upon us in New England, a study done this year found Massachusetts is tied to be the second most expensive state on average to get married.

According to the wedding planning site The Knot, ceremonies, parties, and everything that comes in between can cost Bay State destination couples an average of $46,000— a number shared with New York and only surpassed by New Jersey at $51,000. Those totals don't even include the cost of an engagement ring, which typically cost around $6,000 on average.

It's a common theme for New England, both Vermont and Rhode Island share a $43,000 average figure.

The study says destination weddings in populated cities like New York and San Francisco make the costs soar.

The cheapest states to tie the knot, the study found, were Kansas and Utah with $16,000.
