WINDHAM, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — On National Donut Day of all days, police in Windham, New Hampshire are investigating a series of donut shop robberies that happened Friday morning.

Police told WBZ NewsRadio that a suspect committed multiple robberies at donut restaurants on Mammoth Road. Responding officers spotted a red Toyota Camry that matched a witness' description, but the vehicle sped away and escaped the pursuing officers.

Shortly after, officials received a call about an unarmed robbery at the local Honey Dew Donuts with a suspect that matched the description in the prior incidents.

Employees at Honey Dew told police that a man wearing a surgical mask walked along the chain's drive-thru window on foot. When a worker opened the window, the suspect allegedly reached in and grabbed the tip jar. One employee struggled with the suspect, pulling the jar back and forth, until eventually the suspect freed the jar from their grasp and fled the area.

When asked if the robberies had anything to do with the fact it was National Donut Day, officials said they could not make that connection. Many donut chains and local shops offered deals and specials for National Donut Day, where some included free donuts with certain purchases.
