NEW HAVEN, CT (WBZ NewsRadio) — Weeks after a Rockland Trust was robbed on Martha's Vineyard, federal officials say they arrested a third suspect connected to the crime on Friday.
According to the office of United States Attorney of the District of Massachusetts Rachael Rollins, 21-year-old Romane Clayton of Jamaica was arrested in New Haven, Connecticut and charged with one count of being an accessory after the fact to the armed bank robbery.
Clayton marks the third individual to be charged in connection to the heist, Miquel Jones and Omar Johnson were arrested and appeared in court last month.
On the day of the robbery on November 17, federal officials say three masked individuals robbed the bank of about $39,100 while holding onto semi-automatic handguns. During the robbery employees were bound with duct tape and plastic zip ties, and one worker had their vehicle stolen to be used as a getaway vehicle.
That same day, surveillance footage from Steamship Authority apparently shows Clayton parking a silver sedan and boarding a ferry heading to the mainland, police said. Then, about a half hour later, federal officials say the security video depicts Johnson arriving to the Vineyard Haven parking lot to enter the driver seat of the same sedan that Clayton was seen exiting. Johnson then allegedly bought a freight ferry ticket and boarded using that sedan.

Clayton's charge of being an accessory after the fact to an armed bank robbery can carry a sentence of up to 150 months in prison, five years of parole, and a fine of up to $250,000. Officials say the most recent suspect will appear in a federal court in Boston at a later date.
